Welcome to Ascension Running Community
About our group
Ascension Running Community is an activity of Ascension Church, Southampton. We aim to meet and run together on a regular basis, for social community runs. These are deliberately not about chasing PB's (there are some fantastic running clubs around that can help you with this) but rather about enjoying running together in our local area and investing in our physical and mental health.
We want to grow a community that will be supportive and encouraging to anyone who comes to run with us.
Our activities include a #RunAndTalk session and a Mental Health Miles session which share the aim of improving mental health through running by getting people talking about mental health, sharing their experiences and removing stigma, providing support and guidance to raise awareness of mental health problems and supporting people experiencing mental health problems to be physically active through running, whether that is to support them in starting, returning to or continuing to run.
The #RunAndTalk is a gentle 5km run, but you do need to be able to run the whole distance (without walking/stopping) to join this group please. We don't go fast so don't worry about speed, but it is a continuous run. If you haven't run 5km recently, please instead come to our Mental Health Miles session as this offers a more flexible distance which is perfect for those who might not yet be quite comfortable with the 5km distance. With the Mental Health Miles session you will be encouraged to run between 1 and 3 miles, whatever is right for you. We also have courses for complete beginners and opportunities to 'Try A Mile'.
Please email us running@ascensionsouthampton.co.uk if you're not sure which is the right session for you or if you have any questions.
