Fitness Essentials - Running, Yoga & Pilates
About our group
Hi Readers, I work across Torbay and Devon as a Recovery Practitioner for Step One. Limitless opportunities to run at beginners level and complete beginners yoga exist, from flat beaches to hill climbs and scenic villages and parks we are very much spoilt for choice.
I first became interested in running thanks to a newspaper article my mum pinpointed on the then'Womens Running Network', now 'Women on the Run', with their help and support I changed from a 10 minute bimbler to a proud achiever of 4 marathons and 27 half marathons, raising money for multiple charities along the way. It was suggested I become a Run Leader UKA affiliated and I've lost count of the number of runs I've led since.
'Women on the Run' pinpointed a Level 1 Cycle Lead qualification, I took multiple 'Breeze Bike rides 'for mums and babies leading on to road cycling, the Dartmoor Classic in 2021, achieveing gold and becoming most 'progressed cyclist of the year'. That is because I went on to lead Sunday Park Yogas taking circa <90 per group in front of the Spanish Barn, Torre Abbey and have the pleasure of taking more than half a dozen this year.
I offer something quite different regarding running groups. An easy level FREE run adhering to fitness principles and in addition FREE yoga sessions from a fully qualified Yoga Teacher on Saturdays, typically at 8:30 am. Routes are changed weekly and I keep the RunTogether App updated on the whereabouts for every session along with What's App, and Facebook, Fitness Essentials - Running, Yoga and Pilates.
8:30 am in the morning allows you to enjoy the rest of the day and to be very sociable with coffee by the end of the run and yoga with a quick catch up. We've also found in summer months in Torbay the sunshine hits hard so this timing prevents you from overheating. Testimonials speak for themselves (please see the tabs above) from real life group members .
I teach Yoga and Pilates professionally as part of the Teignbridge Leisure group, PURE Gym Group and 'Park Yoga' franchise,. I worked for Torbay Healthy Lifestyles for 9 years as a Health Coach (now Your Health Torbay), for several years with Adults with Learning Disabilities before this and more recently as a Recovery Practitioner for Step One.
The latest job role means I have Trauma reducing techniques, psychologically evidenced coping strategies, resources and techniques for adults with severe mental illness across two teams including Rehab & Recovery at my disposal.
20 yeas plus of UKA affiliated running means I can provide insights into gait analysis, nutrition foods, warms up, cool down and a well measured 5k/ 3 miles routes and 5 years plus of muscle conditioning and strengthening mean I elongate muscles, oxygenate them and give evidenced based breathing techniques to reduce anxiety and tension.
Being a fully qualified Health Coach (CMI accredited) for 9 years and now a Recovery Practitioner (DBT accredited) means on a consistent basis I help people to change behaviours and am fully versed in balanced eating , physical activity, motivation and confidence building. With a Degree in Exercise, Science and Fitness, 2.1 plus adjacent qualifications l feel very able to motivate you and progress you through a journey of change.
