I started running on 1st January 2012. I had a stressful job and in order to manage my stress levels I thought I'd give it a try. From those early runs where I thought I was going to die after a few hundred metres I've continued on and running is now imbedded as a part of my life. I could trot out my times over numerous distances but that's not the important thing, the key feature is that I enjoy running and it helps me immeasurably. To date it's the only New Year's resolution I've ever stuck to and I'm a better person for it. In May 2016 I attended my first Heaton Park Run Together session after being recommended it by a friend and loved it from the first minute. The mixing of abilities and relaxed atmosphere gave it an inclusive feel. Now that's not to say we weren't put through our paces and pushed but the ethos is all about getting the best out of your own personal circumstances without the pressure. In February 2018 I took the Leadership in Running Fitness course and have enjoyed every minute of being a Run Together Run Leader. I love to see people go beyond what they previously thought they could achieve as I've been there myself so can understand perfectly the confidence building nature of it.
