This Girl Did!! 5 miles non-stop

Today we are celebrating one of our Tuesday Night Ladies......Karen.  On Weds 19th July she completed her very first official solo race, a 5 miler no less, ran the whole thing and collected her very first piece of "official" solo race bling... all by accident....but look at her here, proud as punch.

Karen started with the Herts Girls Can Run Together Tuesday evening group in May 2017 - with the 4 week beginners course. This was a trial pilot to see if any women attended and if HGC Run Together had any interest in the area. Karen was keen straight away and we all finally decided after the 4 weeks we would keep this group going as the ladies attending liked the support and the sociable element.

Karen has completed a 5k race for life also as part of her Gym she attends in Welwyn. This was entered as a team and Karen and her team mates raised valuable money for life saving research at Cancer Research while running 5k as a team.

We recently ran a "homework" initiative as part of Wimbledon and we called it WimbleRUN and Karen was updating the whatsapp group every other night as she had pulled Nadal out of the draw and had to run an hour every time Nadal played - Karen smashed this out of the park covering well over 12 miles in the competition over 2 weeks!!

Karen admitted about the 5 mile run "I entered this by accident, I thought it was a park run event" "I turned up and it was either this or the 2k Fun Run, good job i didn't do that it was all children" Karen could have easily gone home , she didnt, she entered the 5 miler anyway, her first race solo and RAN the whole way.  It was a hilly and grassy course that some pro's would struggle to run the whole way. She was cheered in by many of the local runners and she did a more than respectable time of 1:12:24 - fabulous work!! She was the talk of my very own running club Ware Joggers over the next few days who were all very impressed by the achivement she had reached in the space of 4 months.

We are all very proud of Karen here at our group and she continues to represent what this group is about, fun, hard work, support and Women in Herts getting out and giving it what they have got.
