Andrew Long

...Mine isn't the conventional 'how I got into running' story. Early 2014 I realised I had to do something with my weight and with my 40th birthday in the August I decided to change my diet and walk more. I lost 5 stones before my birthday and kept walking.. 2500km in total in 2014. In a fit of bravado I signed up to parkrun and did nothing about it for a year until while on yet another long walk I thought 'I wonder if I can run a bit' and realised it wasn't that bad. I'd said I'd start parkrun when I was 40, and on the last Saturday before my 41st Birthday I did my first parkrun (1/8/2015) - 5 park runs later I entered Sheffield 10k in another fit of bravado the day before the race having never run that far. I qualified as an England Athletics Run Leader in 2017 and have led groups for Striders at Heeley & Graves. I just want to help people get the same enjoyment I get from running. While a Strider I was the 60 minute pacer at Sheffield 10k in 2017 coming in at 59.50. I got as much out of seeing so many people achieve the time they wanted as I do beating my own times (something which happens infrequently these days)
