Steve Ellis

My running journey began in 1982 when a couple of mates and I decided that running would be a great way to keep fit. I remember I hated running at school, especially cross country, yet here I was running 10 miles 3 times a week at my peak. After about 5 years my running became almost non existent, as I played football a lot. Moving forward to 2017 I decided I would run the St Neots half marathon, my first half. It passed my house every year and I often wondered what it would be like to take part. I guess the only training I did for it was the Huntingdon parkrun, not the best preparation, but managed to do it in 2:23 mins. Once again I found myself not running so much until pocket parkrun popped up, this was the start of more consistent running. Forward to 2021 I met Antony and Jennie at a friends BBQ where we talked about running and OVR, I guess the rest is history. OVR has enabled me to enjoy my running again, I have run two more half marathons and even a 20 mile run. The social aspect of the group gives you the chance to have a good old chat and a chance to de stress and we always have a good laugh. Somehow we always end up talking about food. I have got to meet some truly inspirational and motivational people since I joined OVR and made some really good friends. I want people to feel as motivated as I do and support those starting out on their running journey, so what better way to give something back than to become a run leader.
