Gareth Cooper

After a few 10k's done back in 2010'ish I struggled with motivation for running alone. I would always start on a training plan, then after a couple of sessions give in. I happened across Running Fit back in 2019 and those first messages sent to Paula, I still keep, to remind me of where I started. Everyone always has that feeling of "I don't want to slow everyone down", " ill be at the back" and "You guys will be too quick for me". I was one of those people, although everyone told me it didn't matter how fast I went or how far - there would be someone to run with and no one gets left behind. I also didn't believe them..... They were right, my first sessions was a 5K that I huffed and puffed around. I ran and I walked - but there was someone there with me, having a chat and just having a fun social experience. And it was great! I've built upon those initial sessions and improved week upon week and its like I never had that 9-year gap away. In-fact I can now run Half Marathon and I'd love to get my first Marathon in somewhere Group running is for me, I find it so much easier both mentally and physically. But I also used that new confidence in running to go out alone and enjoy it. When I was offered the chance to complete the LiRF course and lead a group for Running Fit - I jumped at the chance. Not only do I love being part of the group, but I get to give back what the group has given me. Ill see you at the Next Meet!
