Headtorch happenings
A couple of our ultra keen runners mentioned signing up for a quite costly night race
Have to say over the years these have been a great way to brighten up the cold and dark months.
Would I be OK taking pathway athletes round our muddy Wolds?
The first question is always safety, so making the runners aware what the odds are (Tripping hazards, mud, stiles, wet feet etc). The next is suitable equipment-trail shoes, head torch (Always carry a spare) and advisory gloves, buff and top body cover, a phone is also a good shout.
Our paths round here get a very good sticky mud but Im pleased to say the headtorches are fast becoming a weekly event in all weathers. We have an older runner whose previous furthest distance of six miles has now been eclipsed for an eight mile head torch! Even asking when the next one will be.
Safety is paramount, always. But not only are we giving runners something to smileand remember in a difficult time but teaching them skills on foot fall, balance, agility and to use their senses more-As human beings we adapt superbly to different challenges very quickly.
