Supporting Mental Health
We are delighted to announce that England Athletics has accepted our group to be part of the #RunAndTalk programme and has appointed our leader, Michelle Coveney, as a Mental Health Champion for the group. This year has really highlighted to us all the importance of mental health and how running can help us.
But what does this mean for Sutton Benger RunTogether?
- As a group we will support the Time to Talk Day in February and World Mental Health Day in October by registering an organised run for each event.
- Provide crisis contacts for members of the group.
- Encourage and promote conversations about mental health.
- Make links with mental health organisations in the community.
- Actively promote wellbeing and running.
In all our running sessions there is always a period when we can just run and chat (usually as part of the warm up), so this is a perfect opportunity for us all to check in with each other and just simply ask how each other’s week has been, or share how we are feeling today. Everyone should feel that our group is friendly and accepting and we wish to create an awareness of mental health and to help breakdown any stigma surrounding mental health.
Most importantly of all please remember:
- If you are feeling a little bit low, please feel free to speak in confidence to someone in our group.
- If you have any concerns about the mental health of anyone in the group, please feel free to share those concerns with our leader in confidence.
- If you have family, friends, or colleagues who you feel will benefit their mental health by taking up running then please encourage them to join us.
