Christmas with TRF

Oh what a night!

Last night (3/12/21), TRF started to celebrate the last year (or two!).  We chose a slightly different type of event this year, to ensure we were all comfortable within the current climate but also to really represent what we are about.  This year it wasn't just for our runners, but their families too.

We've always started our socials where some of the younger ones can join us for a bit but then they've had to disappear off home.  We know that while we often talk about TRF family, actually it works both ways and we wanted everyone to be involved.

Ellie (Group Leader Nat's little one) has been part of TRF since she was born!  It's what she knows, she's grown up knowing many of the other runners and this was clear as she worked the room last night!  She had her dancing buddy Isla too which was super, but it reminded us of the last TRF Christmas do, when we had only really just met Ali, and it was the first time we suggested the Run Leader course to Rich.  Megs is our star Head of Socials and she did not disappoint again, with a full team effort with room bookings and food collection courtesy of Mama and Papa G.  After joining every social so far and having to leave early it was great Will could stay for the long run, and that dad could join in as well.

Others brought little people along to join the party, many were home before the quiz so the adults could get back on the dance floor (to something that wasn't Frozen! 😂).  It was great to meet other family members and partners, some for the first time and in other cases it reminded us of the journey TRF had been on with many of the group.  We've seen new arrivals, celebrations, weddings and supported others during less happy times.  This is something we will continue to this as this is more important than any PB.

During the evening we had a few items on our agenda.  Nat gave a little speech that didn't include any hill reps or intervals, but instead was thank yous and well dones for things over the last year.  We did a little quiz and Rich remembered a prize this year so that's all good!  And we learnt some very odd things about our leaders.  🙈 Then it was just about snacking, chatting and dancing.  Some people were quite happy with just chatting but Dawn had other ideas 'encouraging' everyone to dance!  💃🏻

We had DJ Dara 🎶 in the house thanks to Dawn and after us belting out the Mariah classic it was time for our carriages, ensuring no snacks were left behind.  Mark did a great job at our last social carrying 3 pizzas home, so his mission last night was a box of muffins!  We would love to know if they all made it safely back 🧁

Thank you to everyone that came, let's cross our fingers for the return of more socials in 2022, the only issue with last night is we missed the big selfie 🤳🙈😂
