I turned up one Saturday in March 2015 at Oakwell Hall parkrun. It seemed like a good idea at the time, hated every 49.01 minutes of it but I turned up the following week and the next and the next.
It was at parkrun I met a fellow runner who encouraged me week in week out. It wasn't about getting fast times it was about improving my general well-being. Yet the more I ran the more I got asked why I'd started running. I couldn't give a reason other than "why not?"
In 2016 me & that fellow runner & now friend tried to find a running club that would support and motivate us. We dabbled with one club or another but they didn't feel right and we could easily talk ourselves into a coffee as quickly as we could out of a run.
And then we found Tingley RunFIT. You can run as often or as little as you want. It doesn't matter what your pace is or what your goals are TRF encourages you literally every step of the way. The group has grown from strength to strength since we joined and I'm proud to wear the club shirt and to be a part of this running family.
During 2017 I accomplished a challenge of running a 10k event every month. The TRF family supported me whether it was helping me train, running along side me, encouraging me at one of the weekly sessions or cheering me on at the finish line.
So when it came to thinking about goals for 2018 I thought about how much time, support and motivation Natalie and the other run leaders give everyone and I thought "why not?!". I have benefited so much from being part of TRF and by becoming a run Leader I can not only support Natalie and her Team but hopefully help others achieve their goals.
I'm known for three things at TRF: my ability to hide in the post run selfie, the hashtag littlelegs and bursting out with some random, but appropriate, lyrics from a song. If you're reading this and wondering "is running for me? Is this group for me?" ask yourself "why not?!
