Waverley Harriers - Couch to 5k

Next run: Thursday 02 May 2024

About our group

Our 'Couch to 5k' programme is for complete beginners.  Our next programme starts on Thursday 11th April 2024.  It costs £10 for 9 sessions.

We'll have an extra 'graduation' session on Saturday 8th June 2024, where we'll join a local Parkrun so you can prove you really can run 5k!

I’ve never run before – can I still join?  Our sessions are designed for complete beginners, and are suitable people of different fitness levels. We expect participants to be a range of abilities and to progress at different rates, and adapt sessions to ensure everyone achieves their 5k goal.

Is the programme suitable for anyone?  The sessions are suitable for adults, so anyone aged 16 or above – and no upper age limit!

How often are the sessions?  The sessions are Thursday nights for 9 weeks, starting on Thursday 11th April, finishing on Thursday 8th June 2024.

How long do the sessions take?  We start at 7pm and will be finished by 8pm.

Will I have to do anything between sessions?  You will be expected to do 2 lots of ‘homework’ each week, between sessions to build up your fitness.  You’ll be supported by us and other participants to keep you motivated.

How much does it cost?  The cost is £10 in total for the 9 sessions.

What happens at the sessions?  We’ll introduce the session, before starting with a warm up, before the main session, then a cool down and stretch, before we give you your ‘homework’ for the week.

Will I be able to run 5k by the end of the sessions?  Yes!  We’ll work with you to build up slowly so you will be able to run 5k at the end of 9 weeks.  We hope you’ll join us at a local Parkrun, on the morning of Saturday 8th June 2024, to prove you really can run 5k!

Where do you meet?  We meet in Godalming, at the Wilfrid Noyce Centre, walking distance from the train station and parking in Crown Court car park.

Who runs the sessions?  Our c25k sessions are run by Godalming’s local friendly running club, Waverley Harriers.  The leader is a volunteer, trained as a ‘Leader in Running Fitness’.  Members of Waverley Harriers volunteer as ‘helpers’ so you’ll have a range of people with a wide range of experiences to encourage you.

Where do we run?  We’ll run a variety of routes on the paths and footpaths around Godalming and Farncombe.

What should I wear?  You’ll need to wear appropriate footwear such as trainers and clothes you can easily move about in.

What will I need to bring?  Just a drink, yourself, and your aim to run 5k!

How many spaces do you have?  We can take up to 24 participants, which we’ll book on a first come first served basis.  Our last sessions were oversubscribed, so if you change your mind before the start, we ask that you let us know so we can offer your place to someone else.

How do I book?  Please register through the Run Together website.  Once you've registered, we'll send you an email asking you to pay £10 by BACS.

If you have any other questions, please email us on: c25k@waverleyharriers.co.uk.
