A good year for YMCA Running Club

Well.... The 2nd year of Running Club is almost done so I thought it would be a good opportunity to look back on 2016 and celebrate some of your achievements. There are plenty!

Firstly, the races. We've done a few as a club this year in addition to the ones some of you have done seperately such as Adele's Race for Life, Scott's Manchester Marathon and Alison's Leeds 10k.

In May there was the Beeston Trent 5 mile race which Adele and Scott did together with Emma and Danny. It was a bit wet on the day but that didn't stop us having a great time.

Then came Wollaton Park 5k in July. Alison, Sophie and Danny took this on for the 2nd year running on a nice summers day.

The big one was next... The Robin Hood Half & Mini Marathon. What a team we had!! Adele, Alison, Scott, Reg, Liz and Danny ran the Half with Louise and Amrita running the Mini. A MASSIVE well done needs to be said to a few of the guys and girls here.

Liz and Reg for their first Half Marathons. I think it's fair to say it wasn't the easiest couple of hours of their lives but to get round in the times that they did was very impressive. Times to beat for next year maybe??

Alison... Again her first Half Marathon but this was payback after missing 2015 race through injury. Not only did she smash the race but has been in inspired form ever since. More on that later....

The last team event of the year was Survival of the Fittest. 11 of us ran, crawled, climbed and slid through the 13k course but all got over the finish line (even if 1 person only ran half the course!!) Next year, it's we'll be taking it on again for the 10th anniversary of the Nottingham race plus Survival of the Fittest London in July. Get in touch for more details or to enter.

So a few personal congratulations....

Alison - First Half Marathon done and continuing with weekly park runs. Not only completing park runs but smashing PBs on seemingly a weekly basis to get down to 23:50. This is great time that has been well earned. The improvement has been so rapid, it should serve as inspiration to anybody that is eager to improve their performance over the next few months.

Louise & Amrita - Completing the Mini Marathon is an amazing achievement for both and in true Running Club style, crossed the line together. Next goal, 10k. The potential is definately there. Keep up the hard work and next year will be the year.

Iris & Cat - Newbies to Running Club that have improved massively over their first few weeks. Even on the cold, wet nights they've shown a determination and eagerness to get out there and it's showing. They've already signed up for Survival of the Fittest London next July and with the same determination they've shown so far are sure to smash it!

Adele, Scott & Jane - Regular runners that have all shown big improvements in speed, hills and endurance. PBs are in sight (unless there are holidays that clash with the races!) ;)

Charlotte, Kelly, Leigh & Sophie - Great efforts throughout the year that I hope we can see more of in 2017.

Keep an eye out for events that we'll be doing in 2017 and how to enter. In the meantime, have a great Christmas and amazing new year.
