Chris Birkenshaw

I am a father of two fantastic kids, as well as being a qualified run leader. I only started my running journey in 2017 but since then I've never looked back.

Initially, I joined Spenborough Athletics club and during my time there I completed my best ever park run time at Oakwell Hall which was 23.06 minutes, the Greenway 10k in 46 minutes, Liversedge half marathon in 2 hours and finally the Manchester marathon in 4 hours 26 minutes.

I later joined the Oakwell Bears and participated in many great events such as The Flat Cap 5 and Firefighter 5.

However, whilst out running with the Bears. I suffered a torn calf which has been significant injury that I have struggled to recover from even after physio.

In 2018 Go Be Runners was created and I have been at the club ever since.

Whilst running with the club I have completed various distance runs with Grim Up North Running, Liverpool half marathon twice, London Marathon twice (1 x virtual).

Running has helped me with mental health, especially over the Covid Pandemic.

GBR are a running family which welcomes all members of the community, promote wellbeing and support one another as any great team should.
