Welcome to our running group
About our group
J and M Running is all about getting people running in Mid Sussex, whatever their starting point.
We have been going for over twelve years now and have met some wonderful people whom we hope are still running, a bit, a lot, we don't mind!
ONE YEARLY PAYMENT means unlimited runs!
All runs are free to book once you have paid £35 for as many runs as you want. 'Book' the Payment Run (31st July 2025) and you are set to go.
If new, please try us out for free for upto three sessions before paying.
We: Anna, Bruce, Daren, Dave, Liz, Gemma, Greg, Helen, Kerry, Lisa, Lucy, Mark, Marion, Paul and Steven can help you to get started and learn to love running like we do. We provide friendly, no-frills groups so you can run with like-minded people.
There are usually seven or eight run sessions each week to choose from!
We are supporting the #RunAndTalk campaign with Mind which promotes awareness of running as a way to improve mental wellbeing. Look out for the next #RunAndTalk from Beech Hurst.
On Monday evenings there are two run sessions on offer led by Anna, Gemma and Mark. One at 6.15pm and the other at 7pm, (depending on demand) meeting at Beech Hurst.
These sessions aim to help runners progress to running 4 or 5 miles comfortably. Suitable for any pace.
On Tuesdays at 6.15pm, meeting at Clair Hall Car Park (RH16 3DN) is Paul's run. For all abilities who want to go further and faster, and it's a mixture of off and on road, average distance 6 miles.
Start Running (again)! from 6.30pm Monday at Beech Hurst begins on 2nd September for eight weeks (nine sessions)- message for more information.
This course is now full.
The course is suitable for those new to running, and also anyone who hasn't run for a while due to injury perhaps, and needs to build up confidence. The aim is to be able to complete a 5k run by the end of the course (a little bit of walking is ok!) We will run / walk our way to 5k over 8 weeks. Please book at least the first session (2/9) which you can do for free. We ask for £35 for the whole course which also includes free J and M runs until the end of July 2025.
Get in touch with any questions. Email marionhemsworth@aol.com
Week by week we will extend the distance while learning tips about good running form and practice. No pressure. It is important you enjoy running and being outside in the fresh air with others! We would also like you to download the free NHS Couch to 5k app.
Wednesday evening at 6.30pm. This group meets at Beech Hurst. The distance run is about 5k to 6k. This session is for those fairly new to running but are building up their running. (Pace is about 6.30 to 7.30 per km).
Lisa's group meets on Thursdays and is aimed at those who have completed a Learn to Run course and are building up their distance. These runs will be about 5-6k at a steady pace. Meet at the car park behind the Co-op in Lindfield at 7pm on Thursdays.
We also have an Earlybirds Group that meets at 6.30 am at the Dolphin Leisure Centre in Haywards Heath on Fridays (term time only), led by Gemma. The runs with this group are a little longer, running about 8k at approx 5 -6 min perkm.
On Fridays at 9.15am (term time only) is Anna's run meeting at the Woodside car park, Bolnore Village, RH16 4GJ. This will be a gentle paced run that is suitable for those that can already run 5k but want to increase their distance. It will be a mixture of on and off road (when it’s dry enough!)
The Downs Runs are early on Sunday mornings, led by Helen, meeting at the Jack and Jill car park next to the windmills in Clayton. All welcome.
There is also a reps / hills training session once a week. It lasts about an hour and is suitable for all abilities. It is aimed at those who want to improve their running speed or endurance. Currently 6.30pm Thursdays.
All these group sessions have to be booked in advance.
We ask for £35 a year for unlimited runs. First month free to try us out! We are a 'not for profit' group.
We donate all the run money collected to charity – currently The Chris Smith Memorial Fund, Crohn's and Colitis UK, St Peter and St James Hospice and the Rockinghorse Appeal. In December 2021 we donated £2400 in total.
We also gave £750 to DEC Ukraine and £500 to DEC Pakistan.
Our policy is to support our runners who are fundraising for their chosen charities.
We are all qualified England Athletics run leaders or coaches. We are DBS checked and have attended safeguarding and first aid courses. Also, we are covered by public liability insurance.
Hope to hear from you or see you on a run!
