Constitution and code of conduct

Our Constitution

The aims of the group are:

  1. Primarily, to encourage participation in, and enjoyment of, running  within Radcliffe and surrounding areas. We will do this is as follows:
    1. We will offer 2 different groups catering for a wide range abilities. Each week there will be a 5k group and an 8k group. We may also offer other types of session on an ad hoc basis including Couch to 5k or longer / shorter run options. 
    2. We will meet once a week on a Thursday and sessions will be up to an hour in length and normally start and finish at Radcliffe Market.  The group may sometimes tour different areas within the Radcliffe and Bury area.
    3. In the periods when we are running after sunset, we will run on local paths and roads which are illuminated by streetlights.
    4. When evenings are light enough (typically during the period of British Summertime) we will explore and enjoy local trails in the area, which local residents may be unfamiliar with, and broaden people’s horizons
  2. To promote the health and fitness of members and especially the promotion of mental wellbeing.
  3. To celebrate the achievements of our members, both within the group and external events
  4. To encourage good fellowship & respect for one another at the club and with other running groups
  5. To assist in the promotion of running and walking events in the local area, including park runs and official running events
  6. To undertake other duties, responsibilities, and activities consistent with the nature and well-being of the club and its membership. This may include social events and joint events with other clubs

Membership:

All club runs are free to join.  The group is a non-profit making organisation and we encourage people to participate from any background or ability regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender, or age.

Management:

The management structure is as follows: 

Chair – Paul Cox

Club Secretary – Georgia Taylor

Treasurer – Simon Foulkes

The management team will meet quarterly, and a proper record will be kept.  There will be also 2 general meetings per year which all members can attend.

Accounts:

A bank account has been set up and the three signatories for the account are the Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. 

A record of all incomings and outgoings will be kept.

Declaration:

The Club duly adopted these Rules as its governing document on 14th February 2023 by majority agreement.

Code of conduct – Applicable to all members of the club

  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all club members and leaders, and treat everyone with equality and respect.
  • Anticipate and be responsible for your own needs including being organised, having the appropriate equipment, and turning up on time to club sessions and events.
  • Consistently promote positive aspects of the sport such as fair play and never condone rule violations or the use of prohibited or age-inappropriate substances.
  • Where applicable Cooperate fully with others involved in the sport such as coaches, officials, team managers, doctors, physiotherapists, sport scientists and representatives of the governing body in the best interests of yourself and other athletes.
  • Avoid swearing and abusive language and irresponsible behaviour including behaviour that is dangerous to yourself or others, acts of violence, bullying, harassment and physical and sexual abuse.
  • Challenge inappropriate behaviour and language by others.
  • Never engage in any inappropriate or illegal behaviour.
  • Avoid destructive behaviour and leave venues as you find them.
  • Avoid carrying any items that could be dangerous to yourself or others excluding athletics equipment used in the course of your athletics activity.
  • Listen to your run leader.
  • Do not divert from planned routes without the knowledge and consent of a run leader.
  • Be honest about your ability. Take note of any recommendations given to you by run leaders about which group is right for you and change groups when appropriate.
  • Inform your run leader if you have any injury, illness or long-term medical condition that may affect your running. We recommend that you carry In Case of Emergency (ICE) details on your person.
  • Anticipate and be responsible for your own needs. Be organised, on time, and have appropriate clothing and equipment. If it’s dark, wear something bright – hi vis or reflective.
  • Don't run too far off the front of a group. Loop back at regular intervals or when requested to by your run leader.
  • Look after the other runners within your group. If someone is struggling, make sure that they are not left on their own or inform your run leader.
  • Be responsible for your own safety and the safety of others. Warn other runners around you of impending hazards.
  • Respect and acknowledge other road and footpath users. Be courteous and run in single file where appropriate. Close gates after passing through.
  • Do not leave a session without first informing your run leader.
