Welcome to our Running Group

About our group

Hi Everyone

Welcome to the webpage of Solent Stormers Running & Walking Group,

We are an establsihed running and walking group for adults with a learning disability. The group is aimed at people who would like to learn to get fit through some fun exercises. It doesn't matter how fit you are or if you are new to running as long as you are willing to give it a go! We want to encourage as many people as possible to join us.

We are pleased to tell you we started back at the Mountbatten Centre in August and have been making good use of Alexandra Park.  Due to the Coronavirus there are a few changes to be aware of:

We are asking everyone who comes to make sure they are fit and well when they come to the group and also tell us their name and contact number. We will ask you each session. We need this information in case someone becomes unwell with symptoms of Coronavirus:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

If one of you has these symptoms after being at the group you must let one of the group leaders/facilitators know (Ann, Karen, Becky, Lisa or Will). We have a duty to let other people know so that they can then self-isolate. We can provide accessible information on the virus and keeping safe if people need it on this.

Please be ready to exercise with the right clothes and a drink as we cannot use the changing rooms.   We will need to try and stay 2 metres apart which is what England Athletics have reccommended.
