After numerous failed attempts to get my cholesterol to a healthy level, a marathon running cousin convinced me to sign up to Parkrun in 2015. By the winter of 2018 I had signed up for my first half marathon - 'The Big Half' and in need of some inspiration to get me past the 10 mile distance joined Thamesmead Running Club after being heckled by their members on the Thames Path. My first run resulted in my wife texting to see where I was as I was late back after a 22km run - a gentle(!) introduction to the club and my first run over 14km. It's amazing what you can achieve running with supportive like-minded runners. That was 6 years ago, since then I've become a run leader, run more half marathons than I can remember, 5 marathons including London and Ibiza plus the Ultra London ultramarathon. More recently I have got in to trail running - running off road through hills and woods and have started leading trail runs for the club. Thamesmead Running Club is a real community fitness group made up of a diverse bunch running for fun, socialising, getting fit and smashing PBs. Hope to see you out and about soon.
