Open race, affiliated and unaffiliated Runners very welcome!
We are hosting this year's local race and would love you to join us! Whether it's your first ever race and you'll be walk/running, or your an experienced club runner looking for a PB or new route.
Only £3.50 for UKA affiliated runners, £5.50 for unaffiliated.

WELCOME to Thamesmead Running Club!
We're an active, England Athletics Affiliated Running Club; volunteer led, social and community based with over 70 active runners from Thamesmead and surrounding areas (Abbey Wood, Belvedere, Bexleyheath, Woolwich, Plumstead, Blackheath etc.) established in September 2016.
Each week we run different sessions for a range of abilities from complete beginners nervous about starting running, to runners with decades of experience who compete in Ultra-marathons. We have regular programmes such as our FREE "Couch to 5km" and regularly compete in a variety of local and national races: 5km to Marathons and beyond, not to forget of course the annual Thamesmead 5km in September each year. Our training sessions are led by one of our 7 England Athletics Licenced Run Leaders, co-lead by a trainee Run Leader, a Run Leader Mentor or our Running Coach.

Running is so much more fun and rewarding when you have a running community to partner with you, get you started or keep you going, challenge you, motivate you, train you and work with you to improve your times & techniques.
Why not come try us out for Free?* We welcome runners of all backgrounds and levels. You're never to old (or young) to take up running and many runners now take the hobby up in their 60s. (Under 18s require written parental consent or presence at sessions). *All new runners with us are welcome to have a 1 month free trial before deciding whether to take up membership.
What do we offer?
We offer multiple club training sessions each week, 52 weeks of the year (every week). The mainstay of our activies are our currently Saturday and Sunday mornings. Our sessions are outdoors and continue throughout the winter come rain or shine. Sessions include a dymanic warm up, running drills for good form and technique, distance runs, hill training, sprints, interval training, agility and co-ordination, strength work, a cool down and static stretching post main session. Sessions are rarely cancelled (2 since 2016) and only ever safety concerns. England Athletics provide training for our instructors and insurance for our club activities. We aim to promote runners' wellbeing through safe gradiated running activities; building community through regular socials and encouraging runners to meet up to train together outside of sessions; improving their fitness and:technique through coaching; building confidence through celebrating runners' achievements; fostering friendly competition through regular races. To be a healthy, injury free, runner requires all over muscle strength and fitness. This can be achieved in a variety of ways and we encourage our runners to explore additional fitness and cross training activities on offer. In Thamesmead, through Now's The Time (Website here) , runners can access indoor cycling, pilates, yoga, aerobics for as little as £1 a session. For those that like swimming or a fully furnished gym, there is also Thamesmere Liesure Centre (part of Better Gyms).
How do I become a member?
All new runners with us are welcome to have a 1 month free trial. After this you can decide whether to become a member for £30/Year or £45/year including your £15 England Athletics Race Licence (£45/year is around £3.75/month for up to 3 club sessions per week, 87p/week, or 43p per session if attending 2 sessions per week). Most runners will suit the £45/year option as, in addition to coached club sessions, it includes discounted entry to many road races, Retail discounts (current discounts include 20% off New Balance, 20-30% off Intercontinental Hotels, AfterShocz discounts, DW fitness gyms discounts etc), exclusive entry to some events and our club allocation of London Marathon Places.
To start this process, simply ask us for an membership application form and we will take down your details and begin the process. You simply need to complete a form and arrange to pay your subscription.
Full details of membership can be found in our "Membership Invitation Letter" under our News Tab (search April 2018). This includes what we spend the money on and why we are now charging. We will take subscriptions around 1st April each year and if you have 6 months or less until the next April fees will be charged at 50%.
How do I pay?
We do not charge for our sessions, there is only the annual membership fee. Once we have your details from your membership form, we will email you from our club England Athletics portal. This will contain a secure link for you to pay online. If you do not wish to do online payments we will have a chip and pin option available.

Where do we Run?
We use a variety of routes including beautiful trail Riverside Runs along the Thames Path towards Woolwich/Greenwich eg Thames Barrier Run, 02 River run, Greenwich Park Run. Or we go East towards Erith and Belvedere e.g Queen Elizabeth II Bridge Run or Erith River Run. Or through Thamesmead via the Green Chain walk and onto Lesnes Park and the hilly Bostall Woods (great for hill training). Other times we may go to Greenwich Park, or Sporting Club Thamesmead, Bayliss Avenue SE28 8NJ for specific training sessions eg Hill Training. These sessions focus on running drills, speed, stamina, conditioning, strength and running technique. Sessions include Hill Training, Interval Training, tempo runs, distance runs, as well as other varied running related activities.
To provide ample free parking and avoid waiting outside in the elements, we meet together first at Sporting Club Thamesmead, Bayliss Avenue SE28 8NJ and walk down together as a warm up to our starting point: the Thames Path off St Andrew's Close SE28 8NY (opposite the Red Lighthouse). When travelling to external sites we arrange car sharing and drive in Convoy.
Looking for a goal or challenge for 2019?
We reguarly compete in races togther: anything from a local 5km to marathons and these are reguarly advertised in our WhatsApp and Facebook groups. We will also be posting details of local races we are entering on our Facebook and Instagram Page (@RunThamesmead) and some on our Competitions and events tab - watch this space. So far in 2019 we have competed in The London Big Half, Chattham Maritime 10km and The Virgin Money London Marathon. In 2018 we have had runners in The London Big Half (half-marathon), the Virgin Money London Marathon, Danson Park Spring 5km and 10km, The Bexley and Greenwich Community Hospice Colour Run, Greenwich Park 5km and 10km races, Olympic Park 5km and 10km races, Joydens Wood cross country 5 miler and 10 miler trail runs to name a few. We also have the annual Thamesmead 5km race. In 2017 we have runners entering for Greenwich Park 10km (Sunday 12th Feb 2017, Sunday 17th Dec 2017), and the Edinburgh Marathon (Sunday 28th May 2017), Victoria park Half marathon, Regent's Park 10km, Olympic Park 10km, Royal Parks half marathon etc.
