What our members Say

I am so lucky to have found ‘Blues and Running Shoes’. It is a very warm, welcoming and inclusive group, where you get lots of knowledgeable support from Jacqui and plenty of encouragement from the rest of the group. Most importantly, we always laugh.   Claire.

I only started running because my friend and I found out about a new beginners runners group.  I wasn't sure I'd stick at it plus I had no intention of investing in proper running gear.          Well, three years on and with the commitment of a very energetic and fun group leader, Jacqui, I go every Thursday and see it as a priority in my life. Plus I have bought decent trainers and all the gear! I even own a Garmin now, I just would not have believed you if you told me when I started! I truly had done no sport at all as I felt I wasn't the shape for running and was rubbish at all sports at school, just didn't think it was for me. I have even entered 5 and 10k races, I have the medals to show for it!           The running routes are tailored for most levels, from those just able to run 5k to seasoned runners looking to stay fit and have a laugh.          Running is fine on your own but can be a bit tedious and uninspiring especially if the weather isn't good. Our running group meet EVERY week no matter what the weather, the group inspires and we all look out for each other.          I go out running once or twice a week in between our Thursdays but as I say, never miss a Thursday. It isn't just the fact that I'm now fitter, stronger, slimmer even, it's what it does for your mind. I had no idea of the benefits until I started. Come along and try it out, if you can run a bit then run with us and have a laugh whatever the weather. The best £2 I spend every week!  Kat

I joined the running club 1 year ago and must say what a fantastic experience it’s been.  I have made loads of new friends all of which made me fill very welcome from day one. We always manage to have a laugh as well as run.  My fitness has improved beyond my expectation and I now run half marathons and down to run a full marathon next year. To sum it up: fantastic club with lovely people.  Graham

“This is a terrific group to run with - always someone to test you if you want it, someone to chat to if you don’t and everyone looks out for each other”  Derek

The Thursday running group is very friendly, sociable and supportive.  Jacqui is our leader and she is very good at encouraging and keeping us motivated. We are led through warm-ups at the beginning and end of the runs so we don't ache the next day.  Different routes are chosen each week and I enjoy exploring different parts of Winchester.  The running group has been an excellent way for me to challenge myself and to unwind towards the end of the week.  Sue

'My running group are so much more than just a running group, they are a support group that are there for advice, sympathy, cheering up when things are though, making you laugh when its wet, cold and dark outside, encouraging you to improve when you're always at the back and getting you out when you really would rather be on the sofa in the warm. Both my mental and physical health has improved from just knowing this group of people. And there's not many people you can say that about!!'  Jo
