About our group
***Due to the ongoing Coronovirus situation, England Athletics and RunTogether advices that all face-to-face activity such as club training sessions, events, competitions, club committee and face-to-face meetings, athlete camps, running groups and social events should be suspended until at least the end of April. As soon as we're given the all clear to resume, sessions will be added to our list of runs. In the meantime, stay safe, keep running if you can and check our social media pages for ideas, support and information.***
Welcome to Worksop Runners, two recreational running groups affiliated to Worksop Harriers and Athletics Club. Sisters on Sunday (SOS) offers ladies only sessions on Sunday evenings and Just One Goal (JOG) offers mixed sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. All sessions are £1.00 each, or free to members of Worksop Harriers.
SOS meet at various locations around Worksop during the summer months, to enjoy the lovely countryside and trails the area has to offer. During the winter months, we meet at Worksop Leisure Centre and our routes take us around the town on well lit footpaths. We meet at 5.50 p.m. so we are ready to start the session at 6.00 p.m. All abilities are welcome.
JOG Group meets at Manton Sports and Social Club on Retford Road every Tuesday (all abilities) and Thursday (improvers and experienced runners 5k+). During the summer months, we frequently enjoy runs into Clumber Park, or along the Chesterfield Canal or we take part in track sessions on the grass track at Manton. During the winter months, we do regular hill training sessions or follow routes around Worksop on well lit footpaths. We meet at Manton at 6.10 p.m. so we are ready to start the session at 6.15 p.m.
At both SOS and JOG, we welcome runners aged 16+ of all abilities and on Sundays and Tuesdays, beginners are especially welcome, even if you've never run before. Our sessions are structured and progressive and led by UKA qualified Coaches and Run Leaders, but the emphasis is always on fun, social running and mutual support. No one ever gets left behind and everyone is encouraged to reach their personal goals.
We run Couch to 5k courses at various times over the year, which are ideal for anyone who is completly new to running, or returning after a long break. If you haven't been active for a long period of time, you will benefit from gradually building up your brisk walking endurance to around 30 minutes prior to starting the course.
Both groups have close links with Worksop Harriers and we enjoy social activities, trips and events with members of the Club, as well as providing support for events such as the Worksop Halloween Half Marathon.
In addition, you will find many of us either taking part in, or volunteering at Clumber Park parkrun every Saturday morning. This is a free weekly timed 5k run, where the emphasis is on enjoying the surroundings and completing the route at your own pace.
