Mike Grant

I am both a keen coach and runner. I have been running more or less since joining the cross-country club at school many years ago. I did my first marathon as a teenager in 1983, and have done another eight in the years since then.

When I moved to Bishops Stortford in 1996, I joined the running club as a means of meeting people and getting fit at the same time. This worked out really well! Although I have never been more than a middle-ability runner, I have found lots of good friends and developed my running since then, now competing in local races from 5k upwards. I find the social side of running great - I especially like the Wednesday evening club session where we run out with people of similar ability, and then come back to the club for a meal and a pint!

I took my first coaching qualifications in 2011 and progressed to become a UKA Athletics Coach in 2013. I really enjoy coaching Beginners and Juniors. It is great to see new runners progress from not being able to run round a cricket pitch, to achieving their first non-stop mile, 5k or 10k. Most of all, you will see a big smile on my face once I can no longer keep up with them!
