About Me

This is the scary bit where I tell you all about myself, so here goes...
Born in Glasgow in 1973, educated at Queen Victoria School, Dunblane in Scotland. Served 12 years in the Royal Navy as a marine engineer.

I started my current running journey in 2012, two years after leaving the Royal Navy.  Not following any conventional plan, I ran my own version of what has now evolved as Couch to 5k, eventually building up to the Great South Run in 2012. Spurred on by that success, I signed up fotr the Gosport Half Marathon just a few weeks later.

Following my move up to Solihull in 2014 and the diagnosis of autism in both of my children, I signed up for the Great North Run to raise money for the National Austistic Society in 2015, followed a month later by the Great Birmingham Run. I have made a concerted effort to run either the Birmingham Half or 10k every year since moving to the area in 2014.

In 2017, I entered the London Marathon to raise money for Whizz Kidz, this was followed by dipping my toes in the 'water' of trail running with the Snowdonia Trail Marathon - a real bapsism of fire into this variation of a hobby that has become an addiction. The trio of 2017 completed with Birmingham International Marathon where my PB OF 4:04 remains to this day.

2019 saw an introduction to Ultra Marathons and the Snowdonia Trail Ultra Marathon. I'm not scared to admit that this was my first DNF, but once Covid lockdowns had calmed down in 2021, I managed to pop my Ultra cherryin the Malvern Hills - Upton Ultra in July, followed by the Gower 50, my greatest distance to date. 2022 saw the Black Beacon 50, a new level of craziness, but an experience well recommended for those who do not like sleep. So this brings me on to 2023.

Last May, I separated from my wife after 21 years of marriage, which really made me look at my priorities in life. While I will always enjoy pushing myself to my own limits, I have always wanted to help and inspire others, hence undertakling the Leadership in Running Fitnes in the Autumn of last year. I am proud to say that I completed this successfully and am now in a position to help and support others.
