Community Fundraising

As the name might suggest, the Moor Running Friends are about more than just improving our fitness through running. As a group, we have social events throughout the year and we also believe in giving back to the communities our members are drawn from. To this end, we raise funds to help charities in the Four Heatons and surrounding areas.

Friends of Heaton Moor Park

Throughout the year, once a quarter, we raise money for the Friends of Heaton Moor Park through donation days. These are quirky Saturday morning sessions which include running and a social event afterwards.

Council cutbacks mean that the park survives only on the generosity of the public and groups such as ourselves to keep it well maintained and tended for the enjoyment of the local community.

The park is our base, so these donation days help to support the work in the park.

Walthew House

After the success of our fundraising efforts for Charnwood Trust, we have nominated a new local charity in 2019: Walthew House.

Walthew House is an independent charity in Stockport that provides practical and emotional support to people who are blind, visually impaired, deaf or hard of hearing, or who have dual sensory loss.

The charity was founded in 1882 by a former Mayor of Stockport, John Walthew, whom the charity is named after.

Hopefully we'll be able to raise a good amount for this great cause!

Previous Charities

Charnwood Trust

For the first time in our short history, in 2017, we adopted an annual nominated charity.

Charnwood Nursery are the charity we have chosen to receive our special events donations.

The nursery caters for all abilities, but also help to support and educate children with special needs.

We raised a grand total of £350 for Charnwood Trust! Many thanks to all our runners who kindly donated towards this!

Our name is unique, not only to encourage "moor" people into running but also to make friends; not just within the group, but within the community as well.
