Frequently Asked Questions

Who can join our runs?

We welcome runners of all abilities.  A 5k run can be quite physically demanding  for the inexperienced runner so we would suggest they're most suitable for those already comfortable running continuously for 30 minutes or more.  If you aren't there yet, check out the details of the next couch to 5k group or contact us for information if there isn't one listed.

Whatever happens these are social runs,  we run at a chatting pace and no one gets left behind!

What can I expect in the sessions?

Space allowing we begin with a few simple static stretches to warm up, led by the run leader, followed by a running session.

Our Thursday evening run usually last about 45 minutes – we try to make sure we're finished by 7 - 7.15pm but it can run over if we're chatting!  Mondays are 60 - 90 minutes.  Our weekend runs are more of a casual affair and the distances vary but again the focus is on the social side of the session, the pace is chatting speed for the long runs and whatever speed you are for the other sessions  - wether you are channelling your inner tortoise or cheetah these sessions will be benefical to you.

Are there changing rooms/toilets?

Basically no, facilities are either within the toilets of nearest shop/cafe or out in nature!  Changing rooms are the boot of your car or behind the nearest tree.  I recommend carrying some tissues and keeping a bag with a big towel, some carrier bags, spare socks and shoes and a big hoody in the car.  That way you can change your shoes to drive home if your feet are wet and muddy (our feet are precious!), the hoody can go over anything and the towel will protect your car seat on the drive home.

What do I need to bring?

  • Water! Lots of it, and a spare bottle!
  • Change for car parking for some of the venues.
  • Hi viz in the winter, chest or head torch, arm wrap torches, anything to make you as visible as possible.  The winter runs are around the streets of the City - we want you to be visible and safe.
  • Suitable shoes for the  terrain we are running on and a carrier bag and a spare pair of shoes and socks in the car if we are out on a trail or in the woods.
  • A mobile phone if possible with the Run Leaders number saved into it.
  • A packet of tissues.
  • Suncream in the summer and mozzie spray.
