March Newletter

March Newsletter

Welcome to our latest newsletter. Now that things are slowly getting back to as normal as possible, we thought it worth providing you all with a brief update on what we are running and planning.

We are pleased to confirm that we applied for and received a very generous grant from Chorley Council. This along with other funding received recently,  will permit us to fund additional run leader courses. We are placing focus on encouraging more female Run Leaders.

  • Following discussions and their support in helping  the group, the following people will be attending a Run Leader course (LIRF) in the next few weeks
    • Karen Penfold
    • Claire Coombes
    • Andy Penfold
  • Over the last 18 months, we have been able to help fund other run leader courses. This has resulted in the following people becoming Run Leaders
    • Adam Moss
    • Warren Hirst
  • We have also funded a number of people to attend Sight loss and awareness courses and become qualified Guide Runners.  The following people are now qualified, guide Runners
    • Adam Moss
    • Andy Penfold
    • Daniel Rivett
    • Claire Rigby
    • Fiona Alderton
    • Karen Penfold

This means that we have better coverage and hopefully will always have run leader and guide runner availability for every session.

Running Session update

Monday evening session

The reintroduction of our Monday evening sessions in Bucksahaw has been very successful with three groups running regularly,  The long 10 km group is very well attended as is the shorter 5 km group with both groups attracting new runners each week.

Our first beginners' group, Beginners to Winners,  is nearing its conclusion this month with a small but dedicated group now running non-stop for 28 minutes

Wednesday evening session

The regular 5 km session continues to be popular and the addition of an additional 7 km session has also proven popular.

Thursday Evening Session

Running from the Eaves Green Community Centre,  this session continues as a sociable 7 km session, with occasional post-run drinks in the newly refurbished Minstrel pub.

Saturday Morning Sessions

We have restarted our regular  gentle 5 km session on  Saturday mornings at 9 am from  Hallgate car park, Astley Park.

We are also running a variety of sessions on Saturday mornings rather than having a fixed session each week.

  • Monthly Trail running session - anything from 10 km upwards depending on weather, and starting from a variety of locations to provide variety.
  • Regular trips away to local parkrun venues , these sessions can be used as a regular way to check your personal pace progress.
  • Monthly 10km plus road running session

We have decided not to hold an organised session, other than the Gentle  5 km,  each Saturday to allow the run leaders to do their own thing, attend other running events and generally to give them a break :)

Group Charity

As a group, we continue to support our local Children's Hospice, the fantastic  Derian House. We would like to hold a number of fundraising events for them this year and would welcome suggestions for some fun fundraising ideas we can promote and run.

Social events

Now that things are slowly getting back to normal, we would welcome suggestions of social events for the group. It could be a summer social BBQ, Xmas party, trips to a race event, drinks or a meal out after a run, whatever - please suggest away :)

Our first organised social event in 2022 is a post run Indian meal at the Vujon on 10th March.  See details on our Chorley Runners Chat Facebook group.

Reminder

We always ensure that we operate a safe and supportive running environment, with a friendly welcome for everybody. We have a policy in place under TERMS, accessible from the runs section on our website. We will not tolerate any abuse towards any of our runners or run leaders, either verbally, physically or via Social media..

We also have a strict privacy policy that has been in place since we started as a group in 2016. It is based on the UK Athletics policy and is available for everyone to read and review o our Facebook groups and also under the terms when you book onto a group session.

See you all on a run soon :)
