A few web links to local running events and organisations that we think you may be interested in signing up to.
parkrun https://www.parkrun.org.uk/
Parkrun events run every Saturday, starting at 9am all over the UK and many other countries. They are free to enter and there are quite a number of local parkruns in the area at Preston, Lytham, Blackburn, Cuerden, Wigan, Edge Hill, Pennington and Bolton.
These 5 km runs are a great way to check your running progress and are a friendly, non-competitive way of seeing how you are progressing and meeting other runners. See the website for details.
Stop Press: When you register, you can now put down Chorley Runners as your club. :)
Fylde Coast Running http://www.fyldecoastrunners.com/
Fylde Coast Running organises a number of excellent running events in the Lytham, Preston and Blackpool areas which are cheap and fun. They also notably organise the Chorley Fire 10K event.
You don't need to be a member of Fylde Coast runners to enter their events.
Lakeland Trails http://www.lakelandtrails.org/
If you get fed up of just running on roads, then Lakeland Trails organise a series of events in the Lake District running along paths and trails within beautiful countryside. With distances from 5k, 10k, 14/15k, half marathon and marathon, and even longer, there is something for everyone.
Enjoy running somewhere different and not worrying about how fast you are. Great atmosphere and excellent support and post-run village and entertainment.

Virtual races are a great way to stay fit and active all year round, run for a good cause and get awesome medals for your participation!
Pennine Trails
https://www.penninetrails.com/
OUR RACES ARE IN, AROUND, BUT NOT LIMITED TO... THE PENNINES & THE PENNINE WAY
Much like "Alpinism" and "Alpine Trails" in European countries, the trails, peaks and moors found on the Pennines have a style, atmosphere and culture of their own. We believe the Pennine trails should be celebrated as much as trails found in the US and the EU, which is why we're dedicated to finding and holding the best trail races and events along the Pennines, or finding areas of the country that hold the same "essence" captured on those unique trails along the Pennines, from Derbyshire, through Lancashire and Yorkshire, finishing beyond Cumbria in the Northern Pennines.
Trail Running Association (TRA) http://www.tra-uk.org/
The TRA has a useful race event directory for anyone interested in running trail events - anything from 5 KM to full Marathons. Another useful source of events.
