About our group
RTW runners is a running group which is open to people of all abilities. The group is led by Joe Watts, who is an England Athletics qualified Coach in Running Fitness & Personal Trainer and supported by Claire Henry, an England Athletics qualified Leader in Running Fitness.
Joe’s aim is to get the best out of anyone who would like to improve their running, whether it be their technique, speed, frequency or if you just want to run with other like-minded people. So, whether you’re a first timer, returning from injury or want to improve your fitness & endurance, come along to one of our sessions and you'll be in safe hands.
Monday night "all abilities" sessions are tailored for the individuals who are attending and no one gets left behind with runners allocated into groups based on ability. The variety of sessions include - reps, fartlek (speed play), hills and parlauf (continuous relays) with active jog/walk recovery between efforts.
In the Spring and Summer months these sessions take place on playing fields. In the Autumn and Winter months the sessions take place on quiet, local roads (a hi visabilty and reflective vest is compulsory on evening runs).
We also offer a "Zero to 30" beginner group throughout the year, which is suitable for those who have little or no experience of running or for people returning from injury/illness and who would like to gradually improve their fitness over time. We run these as an 8 week beginner plan which takes people from walking and gradually builds them up to jogging continuously for 30 minutes by the end of the plan. Please contact us for details of when our next group is due to commence.
On Sunday mornings we provide a "Beginners Plus" social run, which is the perfect step-up from completing the beginners groups or for existing runners who want to go for a fun & sociable run with others. These weekly social runs will help to improve both speed and stamina over the long term.
We also offer another "all abilities" social group run on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm. These sessions are led by Claire Henry and are ideal for those who have some running experience and are looking to improve their fitness in a fun and social environment. We'll be covering different routes around the local area and sessions will include some games and exercises designed to improve speed and strength.
